Sell Your Badass Book on Instagram: 3 Steps to Writing Captivating Captions

Instagram is first and foremost a visual platform. So does it even matter what you write in the caption?

YES! (That is, if you want to post with a purpose. And the purpose is selling your badass book on Instagram!)

Of a course a beautiful, colorful, intriguing photo is going to catch someone’s attention as they scroll through their feed. But if you want them to stop and shop (buy your book!), then you need to think about what you include in your caption.

The good news? It’s as simple as remembering these three steps for every post: CATCH, CONNECT, INVITE.

First , CATCH. You want to catch their attention with a teaser, a one-liner, or a question that draws them in.

Second, CONNECT. Instagram is a social media platform. So be social! Tell them the story behind the photo. Or teach them something. To truly connect with your audience you are aiming to do one of three things - educate, inspire or entertain.

Third, INVITE. You want to invite your audience to take action by answering a question, liking your post, tagging a friend, clicking the link in your bio.

These actions and engagements not only build a relationship with your audience, they also really impact your Instagram algorithm.

And, just like my last post on planning your content, you can create some go-to caption ideas, too. You don’t want every post to be about selling, selling, selling. In the long run, you’ll sell more books by presenting yourself as someone your audience knows, likes and trusts (Marketing 101!). Using the 3 steps above will help you do just that.
